BINTULU: The crime index in Bintulu from January to March 25 this year shows a significant drop of up to 11.5 per cent with only 35 cases recorded compared to the same period last year.
Speaking to reporters during the 205th Police Day celebration at its headquarters here yesterday, Bintulu chief Superintendent Madang Usat said the decline was a result of the cracking of several cases that involved car and motorcycle thefts.
“The decline of the crime index is a result of the busting of the related syndicates, the culprits are now being charged in court.We also managed to make the largest seizure of stolen motorcycles in Bintulu,” said Supt Madang who was accompanied by Bintulu’s Criminal Investigation Department chief ASP Batholomew Umpit at the sideline of the celebration.
He said the success was also a result of the strong support and cooperation from the local community who gave relevant information to the police. Sup Madang thanked all parties involved for their cooperation.
Earlier during the event, he read a message by the Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar in conjunction with the celebration.
He also presented certificates of appreciation to senior officers and police personnel, public hospital servants, personnel from Bintulu Development Authority, community leaders, media personnel and a school police cadet. Among other activities were a demonstration by the K9 unit and singing performances by talented police personnel.
Among those present at the function were Bintulu Port Authority Security and Fire and Rescue manager ACP Zamani Tan Sri Hamdan, deputy Resident (Social) Richard Michael Abunawas, Bintulu Development Authority general manager Datu Mohidin Ishak, Bintulu Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry president Datuk Sia Hiong Ngie, Temenggong Abg Suhaili Abg Mohamad, senior police officers and members of Bintulu Police Family Association.
